Children's Dentistry in Arcadia & Long Beach

Dr. Nashed and his team in Long Beach and Arcadia, CA, may be the professional dental care providers your children see, but you are the practical provider that your children see and want to emulate every day. If you make oral health care a priority—both at home and with your general dentist—then your children are more likely to want to do the same. Create an environment where healthy teeth and gums are a family priority and your children will enjoy the benefits of a beautiful smile for years and years.

Oral Hygiene at Home

Oral hygiene begins long before your baby’s first tooth erupts through the gum. In fact, it should begin shortly after they are born. After feeding your baby, use a soft cloth dampened with warm water to wipe delicate gum tissue. This practice not only removes the sugars that formula and breast milk leave behind, but also acclimates them to regular oral cleaning.

When that first pearly white appears, you can switch to a soft baby toothbrush and brush gently only using water. Hold off on toothpaste until they are two or three years old and can spit; you don’t want your child to ingest fluoride toothpaste.

Visiting the Children’s Dentist in Arcadia

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that little ones see a dentist by the time they are a year old. At this initial appointment, Dr. Nashed will quickly examine their teeth and check the development of their bite.

As they mature, you’ll want to schedule regular dental checkups every six months with your children’s dentist in Long Beach. Children’s teeth may be brand new, but they are susceptible to the same dental diseases as adult teeth. At a checkup, one of our fun-loving hygienists will clean their teeth, check each tooth for signs of decay, and examine their gums. If we discover a problem, then rest assured Dr. Nashed has the restorative treatment necessary to repair or rebuild a tooth.

Sedation Dentistry

Despite our best efforts to provide a comfortable and non-threatening atmosphere in our office, we understand that some children find a trip to the dentist frightening. To help them relax, we offer three different kinds of sedation dentistry: nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation and IV sedation. Depending on the type of treatment your child needs and his or her level of anxiety, Dr. Nashed will be able to recommend the best type of sedation.

Our office offers all of the pediatric care your children need: gentle check-ups, refreshing cleanings, sedation dentistry, and orthodontic care
